The first trailer for ‘Elle,’ the Legally Blonde prequel series, introduces a teenage Elle Woods navigating high school pre-Harvard Law.
Prime Video has officially released the first trailer for Elle, the upcoming prequel series centered on a teenage Elle Woods years before the events of Legally Blonde.
Set in 1995, the series follows Elle as she relocates from Bel-Air to Seattle after her father’s job transfer, placing the hyper-feminine California girl in a colder, grungier environment that sharply contrasts the glossy world associated with the original films.
Lexi Minetree takes on the role originally played by Reese Witherspoon, who now serves as executive producer on the series. The trailer leans heavily into early-2000s nostalgia, complete with bright pink styling, teen drama setups, and the return of “Perfect Day,” the instantly recognizable song from the original movie.
While some viewers praised the teaser’s commitment to the original film’s optimism and aesthetic, others questioned whether Elle Woods even needs a prequel in the first place, arguing that Legally Blonde already functioned as the character’s origin story.
Still, the trailer seems fully aware of the franchise’s cultural footprint. Rather than modernizing Elle Woods into something darker or ironic, the series appears committed to preserving the character’s sincerity, hyper-femininity, and emotional earnestness, the exact qualities that made Legally Blonde resonate beyond its early-2000s rom-com label in the first place.
The series premieres on Prime Video on July 1 and has already been renewed for a second season ahead of its release.
