The film follows Kara Zor-El (played by Milly Alcock) as she tries to define who she is and what kind of hero she wants to become. She is rebellious and detached from heroism, moving from planet to planet with her dog Krypto in an attempt to run from her problems. Beneath the humor, a more serious journey of identity and responsibility emerges that alters her sense of purpose.

Kara eventually meets Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl shaped by loss and a desire for revenge against Krem. When Kara witnesses Krem’s brutality, it turns personal.

The film is led by strong performances, with Milly Alcock delivering a standout turn as Kara, balancing humor and emotional depth. Eve Ridley, of Filipino-British heritage, also impresses as Ruthye, marking her as a rising talent. Jason Momoa’s Lobo adds humor without overplaying it, making it a memorable performance despite his limited screen time.

Throughout the film, Kara is caught in a push and pull between stepping in and walking away. For someone so powerful, the question remains: does she embrace her purpose, or continue running from it? As her journey with Ruthye unfolds, the two seem to narrow down their differences. 

Where Superman sees the good in people, Kara often sees the harsher reality. In many ways, Supergirl becomes a story about what it means to remain good in a universe that rarely is.

The film frames pain through two responses: revenge or compassion, and follows Kara throughout that journey. In many ways, Supergirl reflects a modern woman shaped by loss and expectation, and feels like a breath of fresh air in the way it reimagines the hero as a work in progress rather than someone to simply look up to, navigating life in a way that feels deeply relatable to many young people who can see themselves in her. What begins as a light coming-of-age story grows into a journey of vulnerability and self-discovery, leaving us eager to see where Supergirl’s path leads next.
