Ryan and Yeng’s ‘Byaheng Bente harana’ and the beauty of the “Soft Closure”

Years after a missed connection, Yeng’s harana to Ryan feels like giving a beloved what-if ending it never had.
There is something almost funny about revisiting a love story 16 years after it happened, especially when the story is built on one very simple misunderstanding: they liked each other, but neither knew it at the right time.
Yeng Constantino and Ryan Bang’s almost-romance from 2010 has become one of those celebrity stories that refuses to disappear. Ryan had courted Yeng by bringing her coffee and going to church with her, while Yeng, who had a serious crush on him, would even invite him to her restaurant and tell him she would take care of him. Ryan eventually stopped pursuing her because he thought she wasn’t interested. Yeng, for her part, never actually rejected him.
The two eventually talked about the misunderstanding on air, finally confirming what neither of them seemed to fully understand back then.
“Yung nanligaw ako sa’yo, galing talaga yun sa puso ko. Ikaw yung pinaka-unang crush ko sa buong buhay ko! Ikaw yun!” Ryan shared in his banter with Constantino during an It’s Showtime airing in 2022.
Yeng brought Ryan back into it during her concert, where she serenaded him with “Sabihin Mo Na” as part of her Byaheng Bente set.
Yeng even brought up how obvious her crush had been at the time. “Sineen zone niya ’ko. ‘Di ba Ryan? Crush na crush kita no’n,” she recalled before talking about how she used to invite him to her restaurant because she liked him so much.
Lives have moved considerably since 2010 for the two. Yeng is now married to musician Yan Asuncion. Ryan, meanwhile, is single after his breakup with former fiancée Paola Huyong, which he confirmed in June 2026.
Whatever might have happened between them belongs to a different chapter. A lore of two friends who can finally laugh about a moment in their lives that once carried a lot more uncertainty.
Not every unresolved story needs a dramatic conclusion. Sometimes, closure is simply finding out that you weren’t imagining the connection. Sometimes it is being able to tell someone, years later, that you actually did like them.
Instead of reopening the possibility of a relationship, it allows them to revisit the memory as friends, with enough distance to laugh at what once felt like a genuine romantic possibility. Just the two of them finally knowing that the feelings were real.
