All roads lead to ‘Unang Hakbang’: WRIVE’s first album showcase

P-pop continues to expand its sonic map as rising group WRIVE arrives with their debut album that soundtracks its members ambitions, aspirations, and growth as they transition from being a trainee to full-pledged performing artists. The celebration for the project’s release is extended with live performances, meet and greet, and a media conference on Saturday, January 17.

As early as 2PM, the SM North EDSA Atrium was filled with the roaring joy of the group’s fans, now officially known as the “Arrows” as the charming pentad hits the stage. The showcase officially opens with the performance of “Hakbang,”the album’s key track and a fitting introduction to what the event represented: a collective first step.

The official hand sign of the group was also announced with the official fandom name.

The set unfolded across multiple segments, including an outfit change that signaled a shift in mood as WRIVE powered through selections from their debut album. The group performed “Hollywood,” “Hakbang,” “PanoKung,” “Panaginip Na Lang,” “Ooh La La,” and “Señorita,” showcasing both their range and cohesion onstage.

Before the showcase ended, a surprise peek for the upcoming “Hakbang” music video was screened and is expected to be released on January 21.

The self-titled album features tracks co-written by the members themselves and produced by Kiko Salazar, ALAS, DJ M.O.D, Jonathan Manalo, and Derick “OC-J” Gernale, has amassed more than 200, 000 streams on Spotify as of writing.

Together, the songs frame WRIVE’s beginnings not as a single sound, but a palette of moods — from dreamy hooks to vibe-heavy beats that nod to both classic pop and P-pop’s current momentum.
