Nostalgia is getting a glow-up as Bagets the Musical gears up to bring one of Philippine pop culture’s most iconic coming-of-age stories back—this time, live on stage.

Based on the hit 1980s film that defined a generation, Bagets the Musical reimagines the story of five teenage boys navigating friendship, love, identity, and family during a decade marked by big feelings and even bigger hair. While the original film became a cultural touchstone for Filipino Gen X audiences, the stage adaptation reframes the story with a more reflective lens, threading nostalgia with the emotional realities of growing up and growing older.
Set in the ’80s, the musical follows the intertwined lives of Adie, Tonton, Topee, Gilbert, and Arnel as they move through misadventures, heartbreaks, and moments of self-discovery, capturing that familiar mix of kilig, confusion, and chaos that comes with being young.
The production features a rotating cast of rising stars and familiar faces. Andres Mulach and Mico Hendrix Chua alternate as Adie, while Milo Cruz and Xerenade’s Migo Valid take on the role of Tonton. Jeff Moses and Sam Shoaf play Topee, Noel Comia Jr. and ALAMAT’s Tomas Rodriguez portray Gilbert, and G.A.T.’s Ethan David and KD Estrada step into the role of Arnel.

Produced by Newport World Resorts in partnership with The Philippine STAR and VIVA Communications, Bagets the Musical is directed by Maribel Legarda, with a book by J-mee Katanyag and music by Vince Lim.
With its mix of youthful energy, emotional storytelling, and a soundtrack rooted in nostalgia, Bagets the Musical invites both longtime fans and a new generation to revisit what it means to come of age—then and now.
Bagets the Musical opens on January 23, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
