Spotify introduces a new “Verified by Spotify” badge to flag authentic artists and here’s what it’s about
Streaming platform Spotify has launched its new “Verified by Spotify” badge, a green checkmark that signals an artist profile has been reviewed for authenticity, activity, and trustworthiness.
The move comes as the platform responds to the rise of AI-generated music and impersonation, aiming to give listeners a clearer way to identify real artists. Profiles that receive the badge must show consistent listener engagement, comply with platform policies, and demonstrate a real-world presence including concerts, merch, and active social accounts.
Unlike earlier verification systems, the new badge leans less on identity claims and more on sustained cultural footprint, essentially whether listeners are actively seeking out the artist over time. It’s also rolling out gradually, meaning not all artists will have the badge immediately even if they qualify.
For Gen Z listeners, though, most of the names already in heavy rotation are expected to carry that check. Spotify says over 99% of actively searched artists will be verified at launch.
That includes a wave of OPM acts that have built strong streaming numbers and real-world presence in recent years, artists like BINI, SB19, Cup of Joe, and Hev Abi, whose visibility spans playlists, live shows, and social platforms.
The badge also arrives alongside new “artist details” features, which function like “nutrition labels” for music profiles showcasing milestones, releases, and activity to give listeners more context at a glance.
As AI continues to blur the line between real and synthetic output, Spotify’s update positions verification less as a status symbol and more as a signal of presence, consistency, and proof of life in the streaming era.
