BINI and SB19 Set Their Sights on the 2027 Grammys with Entries Submission

BINI and SB19 are taking another step toward recognition beyond homegrown success with their recent submission of entries for 2027 Grammy Awards.

Filipino pop has built its own momentum in and out of the archipelago throughout the years. Our sounds found audiences far beyond its initally intended reach, and concert crowds have grown across borders, with groups once rooted in the local scene have begun appearing on stages that put them in conversation with artists from around the world.

Now, Nation’s Girl Group BINI and Kings of P-Pop SB19 are making another bid for recognition of OPM, submitting entries for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, including the Recording Academy’s newly introduced Best Asian Pop Music Performance category.

While neither group has secured a nomination yet as submissions enter the awards’ consideration process ahead of the announcement of nominees in November, the submissions carry meaning beyond the possibility of a nomination.

They place two of P-pop’s most prominent acts within a new category that could help define how Asian pop is recognized by one of the music industry’s most influential institutions.

A Place for P-pop in the Grammy Conversation

The groups have submitted different works across several categories. SB19 has submitted “VISA” for Best Asian Pop Music Performance and “LAWLESS” for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Meanwhile BINI submitted “Unang Kilig” for Best Asian Pop Music Performance, its music for consideration in the Best New Artist category, and “A Parallel World,” from the Forgotten Island soundtrack, for Best Song Written for Visual Media. The entries were submitted through the group’s label, Star Music.

Introduced for the 2027 ceremony, the new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category recognizes artistic excellence in contemporary Asian pop recordings, including P-pop, K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop. Eligible recordings must make meaningful use of at least one Asian language.

For Filipino artists, the category creates another avenue through which music made in the region can be considered on its own terms. How it will shape the wider recognition of Asian pop, however, remains an open question.

The next milestone is the nominee announcement in November. Until then, the submissions remain just that: entries awaiting consideration.

The 69th Annual Grammy Awards is scheduled for February 7, 2027.
