Britney Spears Sells Music Catalog to Primary Wave in Major Industry Move

Britney Spears has reportedly sold her music catalog to Primary Wave, marking a bold new chapter in her legacy and career.

Britney Spears just made one of the biggest moves of her career and it signals a clear new era.

In a major industry shift finalized on December 30, 2025 and reported in early February 2026, the pop icon sold her music catalog to publishing company Primary Wave.

That includes “…Baby One More Time,” “Oops!… I Did It Again,” “Toxic,” “Gimme More,” and “Womanizer.” The pop blueprint, officially in new hands.

While official figures have not been publicly confirmed, sources say the deal is valued at around $200 million, comparable to Justin Bieber’s 2023 catalog sale. Britney reportedly sold her publishing rights and performing artist royalties, while Sony Music is said to retain ownership of the master recordings.

She now joins a growing list of superstars cashing in on the catalog boom, including Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Shakira. But her move carries deeper context. After 13 years under a conservatorship, the sale represents financial autonomy on her own terms.

In 2024, Britney stated she would “never return to the music industry.” She has not released a full studio album since 2016’s Glory. Selling now allows her to secure long term stability while stepping away from the pressures of pop stardom.

Primary Wave, known for managing the estates of Whitney Houston, Prince, and Bob Marley, specializes in brand building. Expect her hits to resurface through film placements, commercials, and digital collaborations aimed at new generations.

More than a business transaction, this feels like closure and control. Britney Spears is shaping her legacy her way.
