History was made at the first-ever Eurovision Philippines Selection Night on August 30. 

Inside the New Frontier Theater, 10 Filipino artists took the stage to vye on becoming the country’s first representative at the Eurovision Song Contest Asia. The room was filled with Filipino fans showing their support, but the energy grew even louder when Carmelle took the stage for “Sobra-Sobra.”

Carmelle delivered an electrifying performance, bringing together striking visuals, choreography, and powerhouse vocals. Every element came together to make “Sobra-Sobra” a standout performance of the night, ultimately earning her the win and the title of the Philippines’ first Eurovision Song Contest Asia representative.

She is now officially set to represent the Philippines at the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia in Bangkok on November 14, 2026.

For Filipino Eurovision fans, the night felt like a long time coming. The Philippines has had a strong Eurovision following for years, with fans tuning in to the competition, following its artists, and celebrating its performances from afar. Now, it feels like a full-circle moment, we finally have a homegrown Filipino artist to root for on the Eurovision stage.

Carmelle came out on top with “Sobra-Sobra,” finishing ahead of SAGA’s “Broken Beyond Repair” in second place and “Mapadama” by JM Dela Cerna and Marielle Montellano in third.

Written by Nica del Rosario and Mat Olavides, “Sobra-Sobra” translates to “Too Much.” The song now has an even bigger stage ahead of it as Carmelle prepares to bring it to Bangkok.

For Carmelle, this is another big step in a career that has already taken her through several major Philippine talent shows. She first made a name for herself as the first runner-up of The Voice Kids, later won Tawag ng Tanghalan, and became part of Pinoy Big Brother.

Now, she has a different kind of challenge ahead of her. Carmelle will be the first artist to represent the Philippines at Eurovision Song Contest Asia, carrying “Sobra-Sobra” and the Philippine flag with her to Bangkok.

And after watching her perform in front of a room full of Filipino fans, it feels fitting that this is where the journey begins.
