CreaZion Studios brings A24’s BACKROOMS to PH cinemas June 3, taking the viral horror from internet myth to the big screen
The yellow walls are closing in and this time, they are looming on the big screen.
This June 3, CreaZion Studios brings BACKROOMS to Philippine cinemas, turning one of the internet’s most unsettling legends into a full scale theatrical experience for local audiences.
Born from a viral myth that spiraled across forums and video platforms, the Backrooms phenomenon found new life through the web series of young filmmaker Kane Parsons. Now backed by indie studio heavyweight A24, the story evolves from lo-fi liminal spaces into a cinematic descent where reality feels unreliable and escape is never guaranteed.
Early glimpses of the film tease a simple doorway that opens into something far more sinister, a quiet entry point into a world where time slips and space distorts. The imagery leans into the now iconic yellow wallpaper that longtime fans instantly recognize, a visual shorthand for dread that defined a generation of online horror.
Leading the cast are Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor and Cannes Best Actress winner Renate Reinsve, grounding the genre spectacle with dramatic weight. Their presence signals that BACKROOMS is not just an internet curiosity blown up for theaters, but a carefully mounted sci-fi horror built for the communal intensity of cinema viewing.
For CreaZion Studios, the release signals more than just another imported title. It reinforces the company’s commitment to making globally resonant stories accessible to Filipino and Southeast Asian audiences under its #KwentoMoTo banner.
“As a major player in film distribution in Southeast Asia, CreaZion Studios finds purpose and meaning in giving SEA audiences the opportunity to experience well crafted films in the best possible way, in cinemas,” said RJ San Agustin, President, CEO and Co Founder of CreaZion Studios.
He added that BACKROOMS marks the beginning of the studio’s slate of international titles for exclusive distribution in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia, with more releases to follow.
With BACKROOMS, the maze no longer lives solely online. It stretches across cinema screens this June 3, inviting Filipino viewers to step inside and see how far the corridors go.
