Joshua Garcia's TikTok repost and Instagram follows have put him under fire, raising questions about his political views.
Joshua Garcia has found himself at the center of online debate after people noticed that he had allegedly reposted a TikTok video supporting Vice President Sara Duterte during the ongoing impeachment proceedings. Screenshots also circulated showing that the actor followed Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Instagram. Days later, people noticed that both accounts had already been unfollowed, further fueling online discussion.

The controversy quickly spread across the internet, where many users questioned whether the actor was expressing political support through his online activity. Others argued that following or reposting content should not automatically be treated as a declaration of political affiliation.

For some people, the backlash wasn’t entirely surprising.
During the 2025 elections, Garcia served as an endorser for Construction Workers Solidarity (CWS) Party-list, a decision that also drew criticism online. As a result, several users said the recent controversy aligned with what they already believed about the actor’s political leanings.

Much of the criticism also stems from Garcia’s connection to ABS-CBN. Many fans pointed out that the network played a major role in launching his career following his stint on Pinoy Big Brother and subsequent Kapamilya projects. Because former President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration was widely associated with the shutdown of ABS-CBN in 2020, some online users questioned why an actor closely identified with the network would appear to support politicians they associate with that chapter.
Among the reactions circulating online:

As of writing, Joshua Garcia has not publicly addressed the controversy or confirmed any political affiliation. The actor has also since unfollowed both Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Instagram, although he has yet to explain either the original repost or the subsequent unfollows.
Whether the repost reflected a personal political position or was simply interpreted that way remains unknown. What the incident has made clear, however, is how closely audiences now scrutinize celebrities’ digital footprints. In today’s social media landscape, a repost or a follow can become headline news long before any public statement is made.
