Dolly de Leon joins DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Forgotten Island,’ a Philippine mythology-inspired film arriving in September 2026....
Acclaimed Filipino actress Dolly de Leon is officially part of the voice cast of DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming feature Forgotten Island, expanding the film’s already stacked, Filipino-led ensemble.
The casting was confirmed in March 2026, with De Leon joining the project alongside several Filipino and international names. Produced by DreamWorks Animation, the animated film is scheduled for a global theatrical release on September 25, 2026.
In a post shared on social media, De Leon expressed excitement over the project, saying she is “over the moon” to be part of a film that brings Filipino stories and mythology to a global audience.

Forgotten Island is described as an action-adventure comedy rooted in Philippine mythology and folklore. The story centers on lifelong best friends Jo and Raissa, voiced by H.E.R. and Liza Soberano, who become stranded on a mystical, long-forgotten island called Nakali.
As they attempt to find their way back home, the two are faced with a high-stakes emotional dilemma: they may need to sacrifice their most precious memories, including those tied to their friendship, in order to leave the island.
While specific details about De Leon’s character have yet to be revealed, her addition places her among a lineup that includes Lea Salonga, Manny Jacinto, Jo Koy, Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Ronny Chieng, and Amielynn Abellera.
The film’s casting notably highlights a strong presence of Filipino and Filipino diaspora talent both in lead and supporting roles.
Behind the film are co-directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, with Mercado also serving as co-writer.
The pair previously collaborated on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, bringing a similar blend of emotional storytelling and stylized animation to this new project.
Beyond its star power, Forgotten Island stands out for bringing Filipino mythology into a mainstream global release. The film is expected to feature elements inspired by local folklore, placing cultural narratives at the center of a big-budget animated production.
Following the announcement, De Leon shared her excitement on social media, expressing pride in being part of a project that brings Filipino stories to a global audience. She said she was “over the moon” to join the film, highlighting the significance of seeing local mythology and talent represented on such a large platform.
For De Leon, the role marks another step in her growing international career, as she continues to take on projects that bridge Filipino storytelling with global audiences—this time through a film that puts local myths and voices on the world stage.
