Drags to Riches was such a fun, campy, and entertaining watch. Christian Bables delivered an exceptional performance, seamlessly playing two different roles while bringing so much camp, charisma, and heart to each one.   

Taking on the challenging task of portraying two characters in one movie, Christian manages to make Jarold and Jonas feel like two completely different people. Jarold and Jonas are twins separated at birth, yet they couldn’t be more opposite. Jarod is a reserved and straight-laced man who prefers a simple and peaceful life. Jonas, on the other hand, is a flamboyant drag queen who lives with and performs alongside his drag sisters at a local drag club. While the premise itself may sound familiar, Christian’s performance elevates it beyond the typical twins-separated-at-birth storyline.   

Beyond the comedy, the film also celebrates drag as a form of self-expression and community. Through Jonas and his drag sisters, Drags to Riches highlights the importance of chosen family and creating spaces where people can freely be themselves. The drag community portrayed in the film isn’t just there for laughs, it serves as a reminder of how acceptance, support, and authenticity can empower people to embrace who they truly are.  

The film was both hilarious and heartwarming. At its core, it’s a story about friendship, and I really enjoyed how it explored the journey from enemies to friends. The chemistry between Iñigo Pascual, Elijah Canlas, and Christian was one of the movie’s strongest points. What begins as a purely transactional relationship gradually evolves into a genuine friendship, and it’s rewarding to watch the characters slowly learn to care for one another.  

What I appreciated most was how the film challenged traditional ideas of masculinity. The traditional portrayal of masculinity and queerness as opposing forces was present, but through Elijah and Inigo’s characters, the film was able to show that confidence in one’s identity allows room for empathy, acceptance, and allyship. True masculinity, the film suggests, comes from being secure in who you are. It doesn’t feel threatened by LGBTQ+ people or by expressions of identity that differ from your own.

While these issues are presented through comedy, they reflect real attitudes that still exist today. Through their characters, Iñigo and Elijah show that confidence in one’s masculinity can coexist with empathy, openness, and allyship. In many ways, Drags to Riches proves that being a true ally isn’t about grand gestures, it’s about treating people with respect, acceptance, and humanity.

At its heart, Drags to Riches is a reminder that some of the most meaningful friendships can come from the most unexpected places. It’s a film that celebrates individuality, challenges outdated ideas about masculinity, and shows the power of accepting people for who they truly are.
