Energy, Elevations, Execution: NU Tops UAAP CDC Season 88; Adamson and FEU Follow Strong

The 88th season of the UAAP Cheerdance Competition once again took over the weekend’s cultural climate. Under bright lights and amid a roaring crowd of about 20,000 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena, the NU Pep Squad clinched their record-breaking ninth overall title, cementing their legacy as one of the most successful programs in competition history.

The scoreboard reflects a clear margin: NU led with 695 points over Adamson’s 659, and over FEU’s score of 658.5.

NU’s winning act earned praise for its blend of technical mastery and thematic flair. With a “ninja”-inspired concept, the performance was heavy on high-risk stunts, sharp formations, and seamless transitions.

Though a minor wobble hit the final pyramid, the squad’s overall execution remained near-flawless. The consistency present across tumbling, stunts, tosses, pyramids, dance, and group execution is what pushed them past the challenge and made the “9th crown” not just symbolic, but earned.

With this victory, NU breaks a three-way tie with former powerhouses UP Pep Squad and UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe, both of which had eight titles each. Now standing alone at the top, NU doesn’t just win: they set the benchmark. Still, the gap to second is enough to keep competitors motivated. Adamson and FEU’s near-podium finishes show that the CDC is far from a one-horse race. Every season, routines evolve, athleticism improves, and the top spot stays contested.

Beyond the props and pomp, what stands out about this year’s CDC isn’t just who won, but what it revealed about how cheerdance has matured. It’s not about over-the-top effects or sheer loudness; it’s about execution, creativity, clean landings, and crowd connection. Performances now blend discipline, storytelling, and athleticism.

From stunts to soundtracks, every squad showed that cheerdance has grown into a performance sport that has aspects of athleticism, artistry, and deeply rooted school identity. As Season 88 continues, one thing is clear: the UAAP cheer world has reached an era where athleticism meets theatrics meets cultural relevance.

With NU now the undisputed champion in titles, the challenge for next season is clear: keep raising the bar. For fans, the question remains — can anyone keep up?
