DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island is already making waves before its theatrical release, debuting with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Among the early reviews, Karl Quinn of the Sydney Morning Herald gave the film four out of five stars. He wrote that while the film is “dazzling,” it’s ultimately its “thoughtfulness of the story, its genuine heart, and the passion for the culture it depicts” that makes it memorable.

“Forgotten Island” is currently DreamWorks Animation’s highest-rated animated film on Rotten Tomatoes, edging past beloved titles How to Train Your Dragon and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Drawing inspiration from Philippine mythology, the film centers on best friends Jo and Raissa, who get transported to the mythical realm of Nakali and discover that their shared memories hold the key to returning home. The film features a Filipino-led voice cast starring H.E.R. and Liza Soberano, alongside talent including Lea Salonga, Manny Jacinto, Dave Franco, Dolly de Leon, and Jo Koy.

With a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, a distinctly Filipino story, and DreamWorks officially breaking its own critical record, “Forgotten Island” is shaping up to be one animated film we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on.
