Singer Gigi De Lana revealed during a live update that she has pericarditis following her fainting incident in Davao.
The recent update on Gigi De Lana’s condition gives more context to what happened during her collapse in Davao, which was first explained as simple exhaustion. Her later confirmation through a live session reframed the incident as part of a deeper health issue rather than a one-time fainting episode.
Fainting incident and confirmation
On March 7, Gigi fainted on stage during a performance in Samal, Davao del Norte. At the time, her team said she had been feeling unwell, but she still pushed through the show. The incident was initially linked to fatigue.
Days later, she went live and shared the real diagnosis.
“My doctors actually confirmed that I have pericarditis,” she said, explaining that it means “the lining around my heart is inflamed.” She added that because of this, she sometimes experiences sudden chest pain or attacks that can come randomly.
She reassured fans, saying, “I’m okay. I am under proper medical care.”
She also emphasized that she is being closely monitored and following her doctors’ guidance carefully.
Understanding Pericarditis
Pericarditis is an inflammation around the heart that can cause sharp chest pain and discomfort. Its symptoms can appear suddenly and may feel intense, especially when the heart’s lining becomes irritated.
The Davao incident is not the first time she fainted on stage. In 2023, she also collapsed during a performance in Ilocos Norte, which was then attributed to exhaustion after a car accident. At the time, these were seen as separate cases, but the confirmed diagnosis now connects them to a longer health pattern.
Health background, strain, and recovery
Gigi has also been open about other health struggles in the past, including an eating disorder and vocal cord nodules that required her to take a break from singing. Combined with a demanding schedule and personal stress, these may have added to the strain on her body.
In her live, she shared that she is under medical supervision and continuing treatment. “I’m allowed to still work and perform, but I have to listen to my body,” she said. She also emphasized that recovery takes time, acknowledging that healing from pericarditis requires patience.
What was once seen as a single fainting incident in Davao is now understood as part of a bigger picture. Her confirmation through the live helped connect earlier symptoms and past incidents, giving clearer context to her condition and what she has been going through.
