Hello, Love, Goodbye to Hello, Love, Again: Five Years Later with Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards

Ngayon lang talaga namin nakilala ‘yung isa’t isa.”

Alden Richards took a moment to reflect on his chemistry with co-star Kathryn Bernardo.

After the huge success of their film “Hello, Love, Goodbye”, they’re all set to reunite for “Hello, Love, Again”, ready to say “hello” to fans once more this November 13.

If there’s a film that stamped itself into the history of Philippine cinema, it’s “Hello, Love, Goodbye.” With every milestone piling up like a stack of love letters, a sequel feels like the encore everyone’s already dreaming up.

However, shooting it in Hong Kong in 2019 was no walk in the park for both of them, especially Kathryn. She candidly shared,

“Yung pasensiya mo susubukan kung paano ka makipag-usap sa mga tao.”

The differences between the shooting setups in the Philippines and Hong Kong were a real eye-opener for her, making everything feel less controlled and more unpredictable.

As she stepped into this new territory, her unexpected team-up with Alden Richards in 2019 stirred mixed reactions, especially since it was her first time working away from Daniel Padilla– her usual love team.

Their pairing sparked curiosity—who knew how their chemistry would play out on screen? That uncertainty only added to the excitement, hinting that something fresh was on the horizon. Considering Kathryn’s well-established chemistry with Daniel Padilla, fans were eager to see how this new dynamic would unfold.

While tackling a serious storyline, Alden and Kathryn’s chemistry might feel a bit awkward at first, but that’s all part of the adventure of trying something new.

“We’ve been talking, and are just getting to know each other well, because shooting Hello, Love, Goodbye, we really didn’t have that chance to talk”, Kathryn mentions in an interview with ABS-CBN.

In “Hello, Love, Again,” the characters faced plenty of roadblocks, but it wasn’t just the storyline that seemingly brought changes—the chemistry on set did too. Swapping Hong Kong’s hustle for Canada’s chill scenery gave Kathryn and Alden’s chemistry a new twist.

“Sakto din ‘yung dynamics namin ngayon and where we are now sa hinihingi ng “Hello, Love, Again,” Kathryn shared.

Canada’s laid-back scenery, Kathryn and Alden were free to explore a different kind of bond, a welcome change from the chaos that tested their limits in Hong Kong. Alden quipped,

“Ngayon lang talaga namin nakilala ‘yung isa’t isa kasi before “Hello, Love, Goodbye” parang wala naman kaming ganitong chance to talk with each other, and then mas comfortable and familiar.”

Five years after “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” their friendship has truly blossomed. “Mas nakilala ko na siya over the years. And if we’re talking about comfortability, parang nandoon kami sa stage na very comfortable na you can talk about anything, parang magkaibigan.” Their bond has grown deeper, transforming them from co-stars to true friends eager to chat about anything. This was evident when Alden joined Kathryn’s intimate birthday party, where only her closest friends were invited, showing just how solid their connection had become.

“I don’t want to preempt or jinx anything, basta whatever we have now we’re just very happy because we have the freedom to do anything,” Kathryn shares.

Their easygoing friendship reflects the comfort and trust they’ve built together, making every moment spent together feel even more special.

With the pressure on to top a film that has etched its mark in cinematic history, all Kathryn and Alden want is to create a great movie—and they’re determined to let the genuine connection they’ve built over the years shine through on screen. “This is one of the most challenging yet fulfilling projects at the moment.

“Kasi we have limited time here in Calgary, limited staff and crew. “Hello, Love, Again” will be a story of familiar people with different life approaches and choices,” Alden shares.

Hello, Love, Again will show in theaters nationwide starting November 13.
