South Korean actor Jung Eun-woo dies at 39, one day after posting a haunting Instagram message referencing Leslie Cheung and Amy Winehouse. The K-drama star leaves behind a nearly 20-year legacy.
South Korean actor Jung Eun-woo has died at 39. The news broke on February 11, 2026, sending shockwaves through K-drama circles and longtime fans who grew up watching his steady rise from supporting roles to scene-stealer status. His family has not disclosed the cause of death and has asked for privacy.
One day before his death, Jung shared an Instagram carousel featuring himself alongside late artists Leslie Cheung and Amy Winehouse. The caption read: “PIR. BG.”

Some fans interpreted the letters as a rearranged shorthand for “RIP. GB.” — meaning either “Rest in peace. Goodbye.” or “Goodbye. Rest in peace.” The meaning of the message remains unknown and may never be clarified. His family has not commented, and others have urged against speculation.
Tributes poured in within hours. Actress Kim Yoon-seo and pop artist Nancy Lang shared emotional messages online, expressing shock at the sudden loss. The industry is grieving. Quietly. Publicly. All at once.
Jung debuted in 2006 and built nearly two decades of work across film and television. He was best known for roles in Welcome to Waikiki 2, My Only One, Five Fingers, Bride of the Sun, and The Return of Hwang Geum-bok. He took home the New Star Award at the 2012 SBS Drama Awards and later won Best Actor in a Drama Short in 2013. His final screen appearance came in the 2021 film Memory: Manipulated Murder.
His wake was held in Gimpo, with cremation following on February 13 at Byeokje Seunghwawon.
Gone at 39. A career cut mid-sentence. The screen fades, but the roles — the laughter, the tension, the tears — remain on replay.
