Laufey’s “Madwoman” MV Draws a Gen-Z “Cinematic Universe” Cast

Hudson Williams, KATSEYE’s Megan, Alyssa Liu, and Lola Tung lead Laufey’s “Madwoman” music video in a soft, haunting ensemble.

Leave it to singer-songwriter Laufey to turn a music video into a full-on cultural moment. For her latest release, “Madwoman,” the jazz-pop darling taps a Gen Z dream lineup: including Hudson Williams, Megan of KATSEYE, Alyssa Liu, and Lola Tung.

A visual that feels like a whispered secret that is soft, retro, and full-on cinematic universe-esque. Set against a dreamlike backdrop, the MV is expected to lean into feminine rage in its most restrained form: not explosive, but simmering. It’s a mood Laufey has been perfecting, and this cast elevates it into something cinematic.

The series of announcements were made via Instagram, with Laufey posting polaroid photos of the featured artists one by one.

Each star brings their own texture to the story. Megan of KATSEYE exudes a controlled intensity, while Lola Tung delivers the kind of melancholic gaze that made her a Gen Z screen staple. Alyssa Liu, known for her grace on ice, translates that same fluidity onscreen, and Hudson Williams rounds out the ensemble with a brooding presence that ties the narrative together.

What makes “Madwoman” a hit is beyond the casting, but how effortlessly these personalities blend into Laufey’s sonic universe. The video doesn’t scream for attention; it lingers, much like the song itself.

In true Laufey fashion, it’s less about spectacle and more about feeling—and with a cast this stacked, the feeling sticks.

The music video release is a part of her deluxe edition of her grammy-winning album A Matter of Time and is set to premiere on April 13, at 10PM in local timezone.
