Maris Racal Steps Back Into Sunshine’s World—This Time, Onstage
- September 29, 2026
Maris Racal returns as Sunshine in an immersive theatrical adaptation of Antoinette Jadaone’s award-winning film, produced under her new studio, Ilaya Ilaya Studios.
Sunshine is stepping back into the spotlight, but this time, she wants the audience to step into her world, too.
Maris Racal will reprise her titular role in an immersive theatrical adaptation of Sunshine, Antoinette Jadaone’s award-winning film about a young gymnast whose Olympic dreams are interrupted when she discovers she is pregnant just days before the national tryouts.

The film follows Sunshine as she navigates an increasingly difficult set of choices, confronting the realities of teenage pregnancy, reproductive healthcare, social judgment, and the limits placed on women when they are forced to make decisions about their own bodies.
Since its release, Sunshine has sparked conversations around reproductive choice and the realities faced by young women whose circumstances leave them with few safe options. Its story places particular weight on the question of what happens when a woman’s choices are shaped by the people and systems around her.

Now, Jadaone is bringing that story into a new medium through Ilaya Ilaya Studios, her recently launched production company. The project marks one of the studio’s first ventures into developing stories beyond the traditional film format, with the theatrical adaptation set to debut in mid-2027.
The adaptation is set to debut mid-next year, with Mikaela Regis as the playwright of the story and Mikko Angeles as the director. It will also be released under Antoinette Jadaone’s recently launched film studio, Ilaya Ilaya Studios. Besides Maris Racal, other actors that were casted for are also set to play their roles alongside Racal.
While more details await after the announcement of the immersive stage adaptation, one thing is for sure: we cannot wait to meet Sunshine.
