When Filipino MMA fighter Mark “Mugen” Striegl outlasted nearly everyone in Netflix’s Physical: Asia, the internet saluted him; the moment aired in the sixth episode, “Insurmountable Wall,” which dropped on November 4 instantly became a meme-worthy moment for Filipino netizens.
In Quest 3 of the episode, contestants faced a test of pure endurance and mental fortitude as they had to stay suspended mid-air with only a cloth for support and a ring for balance. Striegl, representing Team Philippines, went head-to-head with competitors from Australia and South Korea. Team leader Justin admitted that Striegl’s heavier frame could be a disadvantage, but he placed his bet on his teammate’s grappling background and core strength.
Striegl held his position for an astonishing two hours and forty-three minutes, outlasting his rivals and securing a much-needed win for the team. His win not only secured a crucial victory for the team but also sparked a wave of online reactions that blended admiration, humor, and signature Filipino relatability.
Filipino viewers on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) began remixing the scene into memes and edits. One comment under a video from the show featured him photoshopped mid-hang inside a train, gripping the handle.
From there, the jokes evolved into fan edits of Mark’s winning moment set to Usher’s “Hey Daddy,” photo comments, and commentary comparing his grip strength to daily commutes like a regular commuter on their rush hour ride home.

The win was also a strategic boost for Team Philippines, which has been navigating mixed results across the show’s first half. With Manny Pacquiao exiting early due to prior commitments, the team leaned on members like Striegl, karateka Jamie Lim, and actor Mark Oblea to keep them in contention. The latest episode tied them with Team Korea, giving them renewed momentum in the competition.

Since premiering, Physical: Asia has consistently ranked among Netflix’s Top 3 non-English shows worldwide, amassing millions of viewing hours. The regional spinoff of the hit Physical: 100 brings together athletes and celebrities from across Asia for extreme physical challenges—and, in this case, the occasional viral moment.
As Physical: Asia continues to drop weekly on Netflix, all eyes are on whether Team Philippines can keep their momentum. But no matter the final outcome, Mark Mugen has already turned a test of strength into a viral love letter to Filipino stamina.
