"I'll Change For You" arrives as a bittersweet prelude to her upcoming album, juxtaposing a feel-good beat with the kind of lyrics that make you want to stare at a wall for three hours.
Mitski is back, and she’s brought a vibraphone and a broken heart. Her latest single, “I’ll Change For You,” debuted yesterday as the second preview of her eighth studio album, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me (dropping February 27).
Following the fuzzed-out chaos of the lead single “Where’s My Phone?,” this new track pivots into a lush, orchestral bossa nova arrangement. But don’t let the breezy rhythm fool you—in true Mitski fashion, the lyrics are a masterclass in yearning.
With lines like “If you don’t like me now / I will change for you,” she explores the desperate, almost clinical desire to morph into whatever a loved one requires just to be kept around.
The music video, directed by Lexie Alley, features frame-by-frame film prints that give the whole project a tactile, gothic-suburban feel. It’s haunting, it’s beautiful, and it’s exactly the kind of “yearning core” content we need this February.
“I’ll Change For You” arrives as a lush, orchestral bossa nova prelude to Mitski’s eighth studio album, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, which is officially set to drop on February 27 via Dead Oceans. While the track’s breezy rhythm offers a sonic pivot from the fuzzed-out chaos of her lead single “Where’s My Phone?,” the lyrics remain a devastating masterclass in yearning and self-erasure. To celebrate the new era, Mitski has also confirmed her highly anticipated Manila stop on July 14, 2026.
