Fiery, bold, and the same old Nadine Lustre that we know, but better. 

Following the release of her single “Personal”, Nadine is making a statement with apl.de.ap with their song entitled “Donuts”—a song clapping back to the haters, taking matters into their own hands, and owning your personal identity.

Released under her music label Cool Girl Records, this is the second track released after her three-year hiatus in the music industry. While the tune of her new songs has taken on a new direction creatively and musically, it still gives a glimpse of her identity, while offering something new to the fans. 

The collaboration with the musical legend apl.de.ap has also added more layers to the song, taking on a different kind of voice, but altogether a statement within itself. The lyricism anchored in protecting your individuality coupled with relatability has made “Donuts” not just a song about owning the chapter you are in, but a track that reminds and grounds you of what is the most important thing: yourself.

Musically, the track is definitely new and experimental for Nadine—the production of the melody, adding layers of beats, while mixing pop and hip-hop together. The elements that are reminiscent of the Philippines identity and heritage has also given a different kind of nuance to the listeners. Not only has this showcased Lustre’s range as an artist, but the vision that she has as a creative is also worth noting. 

Nadine Lustre’s musings when it comes to her music has always been personal, complex, yet still is her. Since her “Paligoy-ligoy” days to her tracks from her album “Wildest Dreams”, her musicality and versatility has always taken on the spotlight.

This time, it has more grit—taking this chapter of her life into her own hands, while staying highlighting what truly matters.
