No More Elections? Vico Sotto  2028 Era May Not Be About Politics

The Pasig mayor says he doesn’t plan to stay in politics forever and hopes to raise a new generation of leaders through education.

“Let’s develop a new generation of leaders who will be better than us.” — Vico Sotto

Vico Sotto sparks an interesting possibility of his future in leadership, which is education.

Known for his transparency-driven governance and strong engagement with the youth, Sotto represents a new generation of public servants whose influence extends beyond politics and into civic culture.

He has shared that he has no plans to remain in politics indefinitely.

“Hindi posisyon ang hahabulin ko. Ang gusto kong mangyari ay makapag-ambag ako para dumami ang mga leaders natin”

he states in an interview with Rappler.

Teaching after his term wouldn’t be a step away from public service. It would just be public service in a different format.

Education has always been at the core of his leadership style. His approach to governance, explaining policies clearly, making processes accessible, encouraging critical thinking, reflects the mindset of an educator as much as that of a mayor.

In this sense, public service itself becomes a form of pedagogy. Because at its core, leadership isn’t just about staying in office forever. It’s about influence that outlives a term.

If 2028 really does mark a transition into teaching, it won’t feel like an ending. It will feel like a continuation of the same philosophy he’s practiced since day one: explain the process, build better systems, and empower people to think critically about governance.
