Isa Briones at the SAG Awards as she and Jon Jon Briones speak Tagalog on the red carpet, a milestone for representation in Hollywood
The Actor Awards presented by Screen Actors Guild Awards, widely known as the SAG Awards, are among Hollywood’s most respected honors. Presented by SAG-AFTRA, the union representing film and television performers in the United States, the awards are voted on by actors themselves. It is peer recognition, which makes every win deeply personal within the industry.
At the 32nd Actor Awards, Filipino talent stood front and center. Leading that moment was Isa Briones, whose series The Pitt won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

On the red carpet, Isa was joined by her father, Jon Jon Briones. In their interview with Entertainment Tonight, the father and daughter made a deliberate choice to speak directly to Filipinos watching around the world.
Jon Jon turned to the camera and said, “Kamusta na kayong lahat? Nandito kami para sa inyo.”
Isa followed with a bright, celebratory, “Mabuhay! Salamat!”
The exchange was brief but powerful. In a space where global press cycles often flatten identity into headlines, they centered language as legacy. It was not framed as translation or novelty. It was simply how they chose to show up.
Isa’s win as part of The Pitt ensemble is layered in meaning.
The series portrays Filipino healthcare workers with specificity and care, reflecting the real life presence of Filipinos in the American medical workforce. Tagalog dialogue is woven into scenes naturally. Code switching happens without explanation.
In one of the show’s most talked about moments, Isa sings the Hiligaynon lullaby “Ili-Ili, Tulog Anay,” folding heritage into primetime storytelling.
The night also highlighted other Filipino names in the room.
Fellow Fil-Am actresses Kristin Villanueva and Amielynn Abellera were part of The Pitt’s winning ensemble. In the film categories, Hailee Steinfeld shared in a cast win for Sinners, while Filipino American producer Zinzi Coogler celebrated the project’s victory behind the scenes.
Still, the image that lingers is Isa on that carpet, representing not just a show but a generation of Filipino performers who are no longer asking for space. They are claiming it.
