Regine Opens Up About Stage Anxiety, Fans Flood Support

After admitting recent struggles with performing, the Asia’s Songbird thanks supporters and says she’s simply embracing a new season in life.

When icons get honest, the internet listens. And when Regine Velasquez speaks, fans hold their breath.

Days after candidly admitting that she has been battling anxiety before performances, the Asia’s Songbird took to X to reassure everyone that she is okay.

“Sorry about that,” she wrote, acknowledging the wave of concern that followed her emotional reflection. “I’m ok. I’m just navigating the challenges and changes in my life as I get older. Iba na, but it’s still me, just a different version of me.”

The conversation began after the Manila stop of Josh Groban’s GEMS World Tour on February 18 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Velasquez was one of the special guests, alongside Martin Nievera and Julie Anne San Jose. While the duet was widely praised, Velasquez later confessed that she felt overwhelming anxiety that day and was so nervous she forgot to eat.

She also revealed that performing on stage, even on regular appearances like ASAP, has recently become a struggle. Singing still brings her joy, she said, but stepping onto the stage now comes with unexpected fear. The admission struck a chord with fans who have long associated her with vocal power, poise, and decades of dominance in OPM.

Support quickly poured in from fellow artists and loyal listeners. Erik Santos shared a heartfelt message emphasizing that her legacy is not defined by a single high note or perfect night, but by more than four decades of shaping the sound of Filipino music. Ogie Alcasid also voiced his unwavering support, rallying fans behind her. Industry peers and netizens alike echoed the same sentiment. Her impact remains untouchable.

In her follow up post, Velasquez expressed gratitude for the love, even jokingly thanking those who sent flowers and quipping that next time, cash would do. The humor was classic Regine, warm, self aware, and grounded despite superstardom.

For an artist whose career includes timeless hits like “Dadalhin” and “Pangarap Ko ang Ibigin Ka,” vulnerability feels like a new high note. Not the soaring, whistle register kind, but something deeper and more human.

As she put it, it is still her. Just a different version.

And for fans who grew up with her voice as the soundtrack of their lives, that is more than enough.
