National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee continues his mission of nurturing Filipino storytellers with the release of his newest scriptwriting manual, Quiapo Ilalim.

Serving as a follow-up to his acclaimed book Trip to Quiapo, Quiapo Ilalim offers a deeper exploration of the screenwriting craft, building on the lessons that have inspired generations of writers, filmmakers, and film students. 

The new manual invites readers to look beyond the fundamentals of storytelling and examine the creative and emotional process behind writing that resonate.

For decades, Trip to Quiapo has been regarded as one of the most influential books on screenwriting, becoming a staple in classrooms and workshops across the country. With Quiapo Ilalim, Lee expands on those teachings, sharing fresh insights drawn from his years of experience as one of the Philippines most celebrated screenwriters.

Known for penning acclaimed films such as Himala, Karnal, Salome, and Jose Rizal, Lee has long championed stories that reflect the complexities of Filipino life and identity. His latest publication continues that legacy by encouraging aspiring writers to sharpen not only their technical skills but also their understanding of the people and communities they write about.

Fans and aspiring storytellers can now secure their copies as the book’s pre-selling runs from August 1 to 14, 2026. The promotional period culminates with the official book launch at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival on August 14 at 5:30 PM at Cinema 3, Red Carpet Cinemas, Shangri-La Plaza, where physical copies of Quiapo Ilalim will be available for the first time.
