Taylor Swift’s new single arrives September 25 after a countdown, suspicious zeroes, and enough clues to send Swifties spiraling.
After days of suspicious zeroes, a website countdown, and enough tiny changes across her digital world to send fans into full detective mode, Taylor Swift has given Swifties another mystery to solve.
The pop icon has finally revealed what all the clues were pointing to: “Patient Zero,” her brand-new single arriving September 25.

The reveal came Tuesday, when Swift announced that she had been “impatiently waiting” to share the track. Along with the announcement came limited-edition physical releases, including acoustic and piano versions of the song.
The song itself was only part of the story. In the days leading up to the announcement, the letter “O” started turning into the number zero across Swift’s online presence.
Her Instagram bio changed to read, “And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u,” while lyrics from The Life of a Showgirl on Apple Music also appeared with zeroes replacing some of the O’s.
Then came the countdown on her website. Just like clockwork, The clues eventually led to “Patient Zero,” but they have also opened up a much bigger question about what Swift might be planning next.

Swift has not confirmed whether “Patient Zero” belongs to a new project, an expanded edition of The Life of a Showgirl, or something else entirely. For now, the single is the only thing officially locked in.
“Patient Zero” follows “I Knew It, I Knew You,” her original song for Toy Story 5, and arrives less than a year after The Life of a Showgirl. The album spent 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced the Hot 100 hits “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite.”
