Tuguegarao-Born Actress Rada Rae Joins Hunger Games Prequel

Austrian-Filipina Rada Rae had been casted as Wellie in Hunger Games Prequel Sunrise on the Reaping, the youngest amongst the cast.

A new face is entering the arena, and she’s carrying a piece of the Philippines with her.

Tuguegarao-born young actress Rada Rae had been casted as Wellie in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the upcoming prequel set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026. The casting marks a quiet but significant moment, placing a Filipina in one of the franchise’s most anticipated new chapters.

At just 11 years old during filming, Rae is the youngest confirmed tribute in the franchise to date. Her character, Wellie, comes from District 6 and is described in the original work by Suzanne Collins as a frail and emotional young girl who forms a bond with a young Haymitch Abernathy. It’s a role that leans into vulnerability amid violence, one that could easily become one of the story’s emotional anchors.

Born in Tuguegarao City and now based in Vienna, Rae represents a new generation of globally mobile Filipino talent, one that moves seamlessly between industries while still carrying a distinct sense of origin.

Before landing her breakout role in Panem, Rae had already begun building an international portfolio, appearing in projects like Nine Perfect Strangers and the Netflix film Exterritorial. Now, she steps into a global franchise that has long shaped pop culture conversations, from its dystopian world-building to its symbols of resistance.

As The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping revisits the brutal 50th Hunger Games, Rae joins a cast that includes Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Mckenna Grace, and Joseph Zada. But for Filipino audiences, her presence alone already marks something worth watching.

Because sometimes, representation doesn’t arrive with a spotlight. Sometimes, it walks quietly into the arena, and still changes what it means to be seen.
