After Maki’s recent podcast guesting reignited the lore, fans once again return to the quiet magic of his friendship with BINI Maloi.
When Maki appeared on G ON TOP with Gian Bernardino and Angela Ken, fans didn’t expect to revisit one of OPM’s most quietly beloved dynamics.
But a few songwriting confessions were enough.
As Maki talked about the emotions behind tracks like “Nangungulila” and “Abelyana,” listeners began connecting dots again. Lyrics about longing. References that felt oddly specific. Timelines that suddenly made sense.
Before long, one name was back at the center of the conversation.
Maloi Ricalde of BINI.
And with that, the MakiLoi lore was alive again.
More Than A Ship: The Friendship Fans Saw Unfold
MakiLoi, the fan-given name for the bond between Maki and Maloi, has always existed somewhere between fact and feeling.
Officially, it’s a friendship. Both artists have been consistent about that, even calling each other “super twins” in interviews. But the reason fans remain attached to their dynamic isn’t just because of a potential romance. It’s because their friendship feels real.

Before the collaborations and the viral edits, Maki was already a fan of BINI. He has shared in past interviews that he followed the group even during their early training days, long before they reached the massive success they have today. In many ways, the lore begins with admiration.
When their paths eventually crossed through the same music ecosystem, that admiration slowly turned into a genuine friendship.
Fans noticed it almost immediately. Their interactions, whether on stage or online, carried the kind of playful chaos that felt unscripted. They teased each other, laughed easily, and moved around each other with a natural familiarity that’s difficult to manufacture.

Even during live performances, that comfort was visible. When they shared the stage for “Dilaw,” their energy felt less like two artists performing a love story and more like two friends enjoying the moment together.
And perhaps that’s what makes the dynamic resonate. The affection between them doesn’t rely on grand gestures. It shows up in smaller moments: mutual support, shared milestones, and the ease of simply being around each other.
The Kolorcoaster Backstory
The lore truly began when Maloi starred in the music video for “Dilaw” in 2024.
In the visual, she plays the girl who lives in a grayscale world and Maki brought color to her world. The symbolism was clear. Yellow represents hope, warmth, and the kind of joy that arrives after heartbreak.

For many listeners, Maloi didn’t just act in the story. She embodied it.
That connection later extended into Maki’s larger album universe, Kolorcoaster, where each color represents a stage of love. Within that narrative, “Dilaw” stands as the emotional destination, the moment when everything finally makes sense.
Maloi’s role in that journey became even more visible when she appeared as a surprise guest at Maki’s KOLORCOASTER: The Concert at the Big Dome. Their duet of “Dilaw” closed the show, reinforcing her place as the emotional anchor of that world.

At the same time, fans began tracing other songs in the project that seemed to connect back to her.
“Nangungulila,” a track about longing, references Batangas, the province Maloi proudly calls home. Meanwhile, “Abelyana” has also drawn attention because of the story Maki himself shared about the song’s meaning.
During discussions about the songwriting process, Maki described “Abelyana” as the anthem of someone torpe, unsure whether the feelings are mutual and wishing they could “adjust the grade of their glasses” just to see things clearly. He also revealed that he eventually played the song for the person he wrote it for, hoping it would express what he couldn’t say directly.
It didn’t go the way he expected.
According to Maki, the confession didn’t lead to anything romantic, essentially ending in a quiet rejection. For fans already deep into the lore, that detail only intensified the speculation. Many quickly linked the story to Maloi.
Whether the song was truly dedicated to her remains unconfirmed, but the theory has become one of the most talked-about pieces of the MakiLoi timeline.
Why The “What If” Still Resonates
What keeps the MakiLoi lore alive isn’t confirmation. It’s ambiguity.
After Maki’s recent podcast stories hinted at the real emotions behind some of those songs, fans revisited the possibility that somewhere in the past, there might have been an “almost.” Not necessarily a relationship, but a moment where timing and feelings could have lined up differently.
That idea fits the narrative fans often piece together: longing in “Nangungulila,” hesitation in “Abelyana,” and the joyful resolution of “Dilaw.”
Still, what fans seem to cherish most isn’t the possibility of romance. It’s the sincerity of the friendship that exists now.

On stage and off it, Maki and Maloi carry the kind of comfort that doesn’t need explanation. Their dynamic feels natural, supportive, and genuine. In an industry where pairings are often manufactured, that authenticity stands out.
And maybe that’s why the story keeps resurfacing.
Because sometimes the most memorable love stories aren’t the ones that fully happen.
Sometimes they’re the ones that stay suspended in the question of what could have been.
