A seaside coming-of-age tale: Xyriel Manabat leads Netflix’s nostalgic drama 18th Rose alongside promising co-star Kyle Echarri.
The trailer for 18th Rose has finally arrived, offering a soft glimpse into a world shaped by quiet island afternoons, handwritten feelings, and the delicate weight of turning eighteen. As the first Filipino original film from Netflix in 2026, the coming-of-age drama places its heart squarely on Rose, portrayed by Xyriel Manabat, whose story unfolds in the coastal stillness of Romblon during the early 2000s.
For Manabat, stepping into Rose’s shoes marks an important milestone. The film serves as her first major outing as a leading lady, a role she approached with deep personal investment. Speaking at the platform’s New on Netflix event earlier this year, the actress shared how instinctively she connected with the character, trusting Rose’s emotions and journey as the story unfolded.

Opposite her is Kyle Echarri as Jordan, marking the duo’s first on-screen partnership. Their dynamic carries a natural ease, something both actors credit to their long-standing friendship off-camera. Manabat recalled that filming began with plenty of joking around, but as each sequence wrapped, their connection gradually deepened that mirrors the emotional progression of the story itself.

Behind the lens, director and writer Dolly Dulu intentionally set the film in the early 2000s, a time before instant messages and social media reshaped the rhythm of everyday life. For Dulu, the choice was essential to capturing the atmosphere of a small-town Filipino film where love unfolds slowly, relationships are shaped by proximity, and the milestones of youth feel both fragile and transformative.
In 18th Rose, fleeting moments are given room to breathe, turning a simple story about growing up into something quietly luminous.
