ZEEN Exclusive: Angela Ken’s ‘Panahon’ is Seasons Told In Fragments

At its core, Panahon is grounded in “the reality of life,” something Angela Ken hopes listeners will recognize with the project.

When asked about a season she would want to stay in forever, Angela chooses balance: a weather that is neither too hot nor too cold. “Yung sakto lang,” she says.

That idea of balance carries into how she describes the EP’s listening experience. There is no fixed time or moment for Panahon. For Angela, it depends on the track and on how the listener chooses to engage with it on a given day.

This openness reflects how the EP is shaped—not around a single narrative arc, but around different emotional states that can be revisited at any point.

The Song that feels like a self-realization

Among the tracks, she points to a lyric from “Simula Ngayon” as one that feels closest to a personal reflection:

Di mapapangakong di maibubuhos sa maling tao ang tamang pag-ibig, ngunit siguradong… di na mauubos ang pagmamahal ko sa aking sarili simula ngayon.”

The line captures a shift toward self-awareness and self-regard. It sits within the EP as one of its most personal moments, something she describes as a favorite.

It reflects one of the recurring threads in Panahon: the movement through experience toward a clearer understanding of self.

An Amalgamation of Seasons

Angela describes Panahon as a collection of experiences shaped by different perspectives. It is not limited to a single personal narrative. Instead, it includes experiences from her own life alongside those of people around her, as well as observations from everyday situations.

This approach builds the EP as something cumulative. Each song contributes a different perspective, forming a broader picture of emotional reality rather than a single storyline.

If Panahon were adapted into a short film, Angela imagines its opening scene as connected to the final part of her “baka bukas” music video.

The Essence of ‘Panahon’

Panahon is shaped by experiences, observations, and emotional states that move across different stages of life. It does not follow a single time or direction. Instead, it reflects multiple points of living—collected and expressed through music.

For Angela Ken, that is the purpose of the EP: to present life as it is experienced, and to let listeners recognize parts of themselves within it.
