ZEEN Picks: Three Years, Countless Chaotic AJAA Moments

As AJAA celebrates their third anniversary, ZEEN looks back at the performances, memes, and moments that capture the barkada energy at the heart of the group.
AJAA has built a niche of their own. The kind of P-pop group that can make a performance, a mukbang, or a random TV moment feel like a hangout with friends. A kind of chaos usually happens when you are completely comfortable around your friends. For AJAA, that energy has become part of the group’s charm.
Three years since their debut, the quartet has found a distinct place in P-pop by letting their personalities exist alongside the performances: they laugh when things get funny, get hyper when the moment calls for it, and never seem too concerned about looking perfectly polished all the time.

During their P-Pop Corner interview with ZEEN, Axl described the group’s ideal image as something familiar. “Parang friend group” that happens to be a P-pop group.
Alex had a similar way of putting it—“parang barkada lang na naging P-pop”—while JC hoped people would see them simply as young people who dared to dream.
Their collective instinct has followed them everywhere, from the stage to television appearances and even their own content. Here are some of the moments that capture exactly what makes AJAA, AJAA.
- When “Bes I Luv U” turned into “BES I LAUGH U”
A performance is usually supposed to be the moment when idols lock in but AJAA had other plans. During one of their morning television appearances, the group performed “Bes I Luv U” while barely managing to keep their composure. What could have been a straightforward performance turned into an increasingly hilarious affair as the members spent much of the song laughing with each other.

It was chaotic, but it was also very AJAA: four friends having way too much fun together and somehow making the audience feel like they were in on the joke.
- Their Budots-Flavored Eurovision Entry
AJAA took their barkada energy to a much bigger stage with “Make It Exist,” their entry for the Philippine selection for Eurovision Song Contest Asia. The song already had plenty of personality, but its production pushed it further, incorporating a distinctly Filipino, budots-esque flavor that made the performance impossible to mistake for anything else.
It was the kind of choice that made people look twice and exactly the kind of playful energy that AJAA has carved out for themselves.
- Ash’s “Mata-Mata” With JC
Sometimes, the funniest AJAA moments are not even planned. During a recent television guesting, Ash called out to JC to come back into frame, and the resulting exchange immediately became meme material. With the combination of Ash’s expression and the way he looked at JC, fans could not help but compare him to a mom giving her kid the classic mata-mata warning. Hanies had a field day with it.

The moment was brief, but it perfectly captured the kind of dynamic that makes AJAA’s content so easy to turn into an inside joke with their fans.
- When AJAA Took the “I Forgot My Earphones” Trend to ZEEN HQ
During their visit to the ZEEN office, the members joined in on the “I Forgot My Earphones” trend, giving fans another glimpse of their unserious side outside their usual performances. Instead of the usual whisper-like singing, the three belted right into Axl’s ears. It was a small moment, but it thoroughly showed AJAA being AJAA in an office.

. The Fan Service to Hanies
For all the chaos AJAA brings to the stage, their relationship with fans has a noticeably softer side. The group has consistently made time for fans who want photos, including after performances when they could easily call it a day. Those extra minutes of stopping, posing, chatting, and accommodating as many fans as they can have become part of the experience of seeing AJAA live.

It is one of the less flashy things they do, but it says a lot about the kind of connection they want to build with Hanies: the show may end, but the interaction does not have to.
- Alex’s Mukbangs Are Their Own Genre
Leave it to Alex to turn eating into content. His mukbang videos have become another outlet for the member’s naturally funny personality, combining food, reactions, and the kind of commentary that makes watching someone eat considerably more entertaining than it has any right to be.

It is also very much in line with AJAA’s broader approach to content. They do not always need a huge concept. Sometimes, a member eating something delicious and being funny or them interacting with fans during livestreams is enough.
- Their First P-Pop Stage Win—and JC’s Full Celebration
AJAA’s first win on the P-Pop Stage was already a milestone. Their reaction made it even more memorable. The members were visibly overwhelmed by the moment, but JC eventually turned the celebration into his own full-on airtime moment, complete with a twerk that sent fans into another level of celebration.

It was ridiculous, joyful, and it was exactly the kind of reaction you would expect from a group whose members have spent years insisting that they simply want to be themselves.
For AJAA, being a P-pop idol does not seem to mean leaving the barkada behind. If anything, they brought the barkada with them. Three years into their journey, that might be one of their strongest signatures. AJAA can deliver a serious performance, chase a major opportunity, or represent the Philippines on an international stage but they can also laugh through a song, make a random TV moment into a meme, share a meal with a camera pointed at them, and celebrate a career milestone with a perfectly timed chaos.
As Axl put it, they want people to feel like they can be themselves around AJAA. The group has been showing up as themselves, four young friends who dreamed of becoming P-pop stars and somehow brought their entire barkada energy along for the ride.
